RISING INleadership
RISING INleadership
We want to see more young black women leading climate advocacy and decision-making.
To do this, our Rising in Leadership Programme trains young black women on self-development and climate activism through workshops and mentorship. This is our flagship programme. The programme – that runs over a five-year period – works with 45 black girls and young women from eight communities in Cape Town, South Africa.
THE RISING IN LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME:
Aims to see more young black women leading climate advocacy.
Works with 50 young black women between the ages of 12 - 18.
Works with participants based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Runs over the course of five years.
Uses monthly workshops, psychological support and mentorship.
How it works
The programme is rolled out through monthly in-person and online workshops, psychological support, a mentor system and holiday programs. The first section of the programme focuses on self-development. The second section focuses on climate activism and leadership skills. All Rising In Leadership sessions are facilitated by BGR team members. Black Girls Rising recruits for this programme every year. Beneficiaries must be between 12 and 18 years of age and live in Cape Town, South Africa. Beneficiaries must have an existing interest in environmentalism and community activism.
