RISING INBRAVENESS

Rising inBraveness

We want to see more young black women leading climate action in their own communities.

We want to see more young black women leading climate action in their own communities. To do this, our Rising In Braveness Programme provides an online training course for black girls and young women in Southern Africa.

THE RISING IN BRAVENESS PROGRAMME:

Works with 25 - 30 young black women between the ages of 12 - 17.

Works with participants based in South Africa, Kenya and Zambia.

Runs over the course of one year and is entirely online.

Uses monthly online workshops, and ends with a five-day camp and graduation.

How it works

This equips them to lead their own campaigns and empowerment programmes – making them stronger climate advocates. The Rising In Braveness Programme runs for one year, and is mostly online. The BGR Team will visit the beneficiaries in their communities and guide them through the first workshop. The BGR Team also provides psychosocial support and mentorship to the girls and young women. The programme works with 25 – 30 black girls and young women from Zambia, Kenya and South Africa between the ages of 12 and 17.

Through monthly online workshops, the beneficiaries learn critical leadership skills, meet other youth organisers, and take action for climate justice. As part of the programme, beneficiaries are supported to run a campaign of their own. This programme culminates in a five-day camp and graduation in Cape Town, South Africa. Recruitment for this programme is through partner organisations of Black Girls Rising in South Africa, Zambia and Kenya.

How does this connect with our other programmes?

This is a standalone programme that focuses on Africa and supporting girls and young women who are interested in enhancing their skills.
