Inter-generationalLearningSpace

We want to see healthy relationships between black girls or young women and their parents: relationships that are sites of empowerment.

To do this, our Parent and Daughter Project builds stronger family relationships through guided workshops and termly support sessions that involve both black girls or young women and their parents (mother, father or caregiver).

THE INTER-GENERATIONAL LEARNING SPACE PROGRAMME:

Aims to see healthy, empowering daughter-parent relationships.

Works with participants based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Runs over the course of five years.

Uses termly workshops with both young women and their parents in attendance.

Participants are from the Rising in Leadership Programme (young black women between the ages of 12 - 18).

How it works

This project works with beneficiaries of our Rising in Leadership Programme and their parents. Therefore, it works with black girls or young women between the ages of 12 and 18 who are based in Cape Town, South Africa – and their parents or caregivers. The workshops take place once a term. The project aims to support girls and young women’s parents to better understand their change-maker daughters whilst dismantling cultural beliefs and dealing with intergenerational trauma. It creates a deeper understanding between parent and daughter and a chance for self reflection on both sides. Ultimately, it aims to create an intergenerational, empowered black community.

How does this connect with our other programmes?

Girls and young women in the Parent and Daughter Project are existing beneficiaries in the Rising in Leadership Programme.
